Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Members of the Faculty of Arts and Science Petitions Committee,

I am writing to respectfully request consideration for a waiver of the petition deadline in relation to my attempt to enroll in BCHM 482 for the current term.

I am currently in my graduating year in the Life Sciences program at Queen’s University. Prior to the start of term, I attempted to register in BCHM 482 through SOLUS; however, I was unable to complete the registration due to a financial block on my account. This block was not the result of inaction or neglect on my part, but rather an administrative matter that was in the process of being addressed with the Financial Aid Office. My father has been working directly with the University to resolve this issue, though the resolution process extended longer than anticipated. I have the back up of this if required. As of today's date, January 28th, the Financial Aid office is ready to remove the hold to allow me to have the course added, and given the time lost in the term thus far I hope this request can be expedited.

Because of this financial block, I was unable to submit a petition or enroll in the course before the posted deadline. At the time, I was advised that enrollment could potentially still be approved with faculty support once the financial matter was resolved. Acting on this guidance, I remained engaged with the course material by following along with lectures and coursework through a classmate while the issue was being addressed.

Once the situation became clearer, I immediately contacted the course instructor, Dr. van Staalduinen, to request permission to enroll. She indicated her support for my enrollment but advised that a petition to Arts and Science would be required due to the missed deadline.

I am therefore requesting consideration for a waiver of the petition deadline, as the circumstances preventing timely submission were beyond my control and tied to an unresolved administrative hold rather than a lack of academic planning or engagement. I have made every effort to act promptly and responsibly throughout this process and have remained committed to completing my program requirements on schedule.

I respectfully ask that the Committee consider this request so that I may proceed with the appropriate academic petition and continue toward completion of my degree.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Anthony Colatosti
