Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Faculty of Arts and Science Petitions Committee,

I am writing to request a waiver of the petition deadline in order to submit a late add petition for CISC 455 for the Winter 2026 term.

I need to complete CISC 455 this semester in order to remain on track to graduate on time. My academic plan is already structured around this, as I am planning to take only online electives next semester and complete my remaining required course through Athabasca this summer. I have also received permission from the School of Computing, the course instructor (Dr. Ting Hu), and the Faculty of Arts and Science to proceed with this appeal.

The reason I was unable to add the course by the January 16, 2026 add deadline, or submit the late add petition by the January 23, 2026 petition deadline, was due to circumstances beyond my control involving administrative approval delays and repeated account holds that prevented enrolment. Throughout this process, I was waiting for formal approval from the School of Computing, and at the same time, I had a financial hold on my account that needed to be lifted repeatedly in order to attempt enrolment.

Each time the course was close to being added, the hold would interfere or reappear, requiring me to contact the Finance Office to have it lifted and then follow up again with Arts and Science. This back-and-forth between offices caused significant delays and mismatched timing, despite my ongoing attempts to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. During this period, I was unable to complete the administrative steps within the deadline window because I did not have control over the timing of approvals or the hold removal process.

Despite not being officially enrolled yet, I have been taking responsibility for keeping up with the course material. I have been in communication with Dr. Ting Hu regarding my situation, and I have actively attended and kept up with the course content to ensure that I could succeed if permitted to officially enroll. I have also already written Test 1, which is worth 18% of the course grade, demonstrating my commitment to continuing in the course and my readiness to proceed.

I understand that the course is already underway and that students who join late may need to catch up independently. I am fully prepared to do this, and I am committed to putting in the necessary work to stay aligned with the course requirements moving forward.

For these reasons, I respectfully request that the petition deadline be waived so that I may submit my late add petition for CISC 455 and remain on track for graduation. I would greatly appreciate it if this could be resolved as soon as possible, as continued delay directly affects my ability to complete my academic plan.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Marcela Rojas
