Petition Letter: I am writing to respectfully request a waiver of the petition deadline related to my final grade in ECON 256, as I was unable to submit a petition within the required timeframe due to circumstances beyond my control.
I wrote a deferred final examination for ECON 256, and the final grade for this course was not released to me until after the deadline to submit a petition had already passed. As a result, I was unable to initiate a petition earlier, as I did not have confirmation of my final standing in the course prior to the deadline. I acted as promptly as possible once my final grade was made available.
Upon receiving my grade, I learned that I had failed the course due to my performance on the deferred final exam. This outcome now requires me to retake ECON 256, which is a prerequisite for several required courses in my program. The delay in receiving my final grade has therefore had a significant impact on my academic planning and progression.
The delay in submitting this petition was not due to inaction or oversight on my part, but rather the timing of the release of my deferred exam grade, which prevented me from knowing that a petition was necessary. I believe this constitutes an extenuating circumstance beyond my control, as outlined in the Faculty of Arts and Science petition guidelines.
I respectfully request that the petition deadline be waived so that my petition may be considered on its merits. I am fully committed to continuing my studies and addressing this academic setback responsibly, and I appreciate your consideration of the circumstances surrounding the delayed grade release.
