Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter to appeal for dropping FILM 260 summer online course I am currently enrolled on. I have been extremely stressed out by committing myself to a full-time job in order to support my family that is under financial instability. Although I should have known my limitation and capability of keeping up with both academics and full-time labour, I felt the need to take two courses in order to lessen the pressure during the school year. Unfortunately, the massive stress and pressure of supporting both my family and the school work at the same time broke me down mentally and physically.

The assignments of COMM 251, another course I am enrolled into, require mostly reading and writing which do not really require access of a computer. FILM 260, however, requires a significant period of creating, editing, and researching via computer software and internet. Because I am committed to full-time labour most days of the week (and I am 3 hours behind on the dead lines because I am in the west coast), I do not have access and chance to work on electronic assignments, while I can work on readings and essays for COMM 251 during my breaks from work.
Because the deadline of the assignments are always around the time when I get off from work, all my assignments are very rushed and poorly done. The poor quality of my submission for FILM 260, therefore, has caused poor marks. Not only have I felt like I cannot keep up with the course, but also I feel like completing a course without learning the material fully is pointless to my advantage. Furthermore, the thoughts of damaging my academics last year at Queen¿¿s greatly worry me and also stress me while at work.

I understand that I should have read the descriptions and planned out the course in advance of enrolling into one. If I am fortunate enough to get to have a chance to redeem my mistake, it will not only be a great motivation but also a valuable lesson that I will cherish in the future.
