Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Assistant Dean
I am writing to respectfully request consideration for a late drop of POLS 284 for the Fall 2025.

During the final assessment period, I experienced significant personal stress related to an unexpected health issue involving my dog, which occurred during the time of the exam. As a result, I was not in an appropriate mental state to complete the exam under normal conditions. In that moment, I made the poor judgment to bring my phone into the examination room in case of an emergency. I understand that this was a violation of exam regulations, and I take full responsibility for this mistake.

The combination of these circumstances significantly affected my academic performance in the course, ultimately resulting in a failing grade. This situation does not reflect my usual academic conduct or standards, and I regret the lapse in judgment that occurred under stress.

I have since spoken with both my academic guidance counsellor and the course instructor, who are aware of the situation and have indicated their support for my petition to request a late drop.

I am submitting this request in good faith and with the intention of maintaining academic integrity while allowing me to move forward productively in my studies. I would be very grateful for your consideration of this petition.

Thank you for your time and understanding. Please let me know if any additional documentation is required.

Sincerely,
Brandon Fathi
