Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to submit a petition requesting permission to take more than 6.0 units of courses on a Letter of Permission during the upcoming Summer term.
I am currently in good academic standing and planning my Summer enrollment to ensure timely completion of my degree. My proposed plan is to enroll in three online courses offered by Queen’s University and three courses at a visiting institution. I understand that the standard policy limits students to a maximum of two courses taken on a Letter of Permission, and I am therefore requesting approval for an exception.
This request is based on academic necessity arising from an external internship commitment during the Summer term. I have accepted a full-time, on-site internship position as a Data Analysis Intern from May 6, 2026 to July 31, 2026. This internship requires full-time, in-person participation outside of Canada, which makes it impossible for me to attend any on-campus instruction at Queen’s University during this period.
In order to continue making academic progress while fulfilling this internship commitment, I am limited to courses delivered fully online. While I am able to enroll in three online courses at Queen’s University, the number of online offerings that satisfy my remaining degree requirements is limited. As a result, it is necessary for me to supplement my Queen’s enrollment with additional courses at a visiting institution.
If restricted to only two external courses, I would be unable to complete the required coursework within the appropriate sequence, which would significantly disrupt my degree progression and likely delay my expected graduation. Completing three courses externally, alongside three online courses at Queen’s, allows me to remain academically engaged while meeting the requirements of my internship and avoiding an extension of my program.
I have carefully considered the academic workload associated with this plan and believe it to be reasonable and manageable based on my academic record. This arrangement has been developed to support steady degree progression while also gaining relevant professional experience.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My academic plan is designed to ensure continued academic success while managing a temporary, time-limited external commitment during the Summer term.
During the Summer term, I will be completing a full-time, on-site internship outside of Canada. To maintain academic progress during this period, I have intentionally limited my course enrollment to courses delivered fully online. I plan to enroll in three online courses at Queen’s University and three online courses at a visiting institution, allowing me to balance academic responsibilities alongside my internship without participating in any in-person instruction.
To support my academic success, I will follow a structured weekly schedule that allocates dedicated time outside of working hours for coursework, including lectures, assignments, and assessments. I have prior experience managing online coursework independently and am confident in my ability to meet academic expectations under this format.
This course plan is aligned with my degree requirements and is intended to prevent disruption to prerequisite sequencing and avoid a delay in graduation. Upon completion of the Summer term and internship, I will return to regular in-person studies at Queen’s University for the following academic term and continue with my planned program of study.
