Petition Letter: Dear Academic Advising Committee,
I am writing to formally petition for permission to add two courses after the deadline: GNDS 120 and STAT 263.
I have spoken directly with both course instructors and have received written approval to join STAT 263 late. I am also able to provide written approval from the course GNDS 120.
The reason I was unable to add these courses before the deadline was due to significant and ongoing health and mental health challenges. For over a year, I experienced a serious medical condition that went untreated, resulting in frequent hospital visits, approximately two to three times per month, which severely affected my ability to complete coursework on time and engage fully in my studies. This ultimately required emergency surgery, which I have now undergone.
Alongside these medical challenges, my mental health has declined since my first year. Throughout my time at Queen’s, I have actively sought support by working with counsellors and accessing Student Wellness Services as well as Empower Me. In December, I met with a mental health counsellor who recommended that I pursue long-term academic consideration, as my circumstances have been ongoing and required repeated documentation. I was not previously aware that this option was available to me, but I have now begun this process and can provide supporting documentation as needed.
These two courses, GNDS 120 and STAT 263, are the only remaining requirements for me to graduate this semester. Being able to add them is essential to completing my degree. I am fully committed to doing everything necessary to catch up and succeed. For STAT 263, I have already submitted an assignment to the professor to remain current with the coursework, and I am prepared to put in the additional work required for both classes.
I sincerely and respectfully ask for your consideration of this petition. I would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to complete these final requirements and move forward with graduation.
