Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (Academic),

I am writing to respectfully request academic consideration for GEOL104 and to ask that my final standing in the course be recorded as a CR (Credit) grade due to extenuating circumstances that affected my performance on the final examination.

During this period, I experienced significant anxiety that impacted my functioning in evaluative settings. Although I remained engaged in the course throughout the term and completed coursework requirements, I experienced a period of acute anxiety during the GEOL104 final examination that meaningfully interfered with my ability to demonstrate my knowledge.

At the time of the exam, I experienced heightened anxiety symptoms that affected my concentration, recall, and overall ability to process questions effectively. Despite preparing for the assessment, I found it difficult to think clearly and perform at my usual academic level. As a result, my exam performance does not accurately reflect my understanding of the course material or the effort I invested throughout the term.

I have been working with a psychologist to address anxiety and develop coping strategies, and I have remained engaged in treatment. Supporting documentation from my psychologist has been provided, which outlines the clinical context and confirms that acute anxiety during the GEOL104 examination significantly impaired my ability to perform in that evaluative context.

Outside of this examination, I remained committed to my academic responsibilities and continued to engage with course content to the best of my ability. My request is therefore specific to the impact of this acute episode of anxiety during the final assessment rather than my overall participation in the course.

In light of these circumstances and the supporting documentation provided, I respectfully request that my final standing in GEOL104 be recorded as a CR (Credit) grade. I believe this outcome would more accurately reflect my academic engagement while acknowledging the documented impact of anxiety during the examination.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Avery Yoo
