Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to formally request consideration for a late course drop for the Fall 2025 term.

During the winter term, I experienced significant personal and health-related challenges that affected my academic performance. As a result of these difficulties, I had to leave Ontario and return home to recover and seek medical support. I am currently undergoing assessment with my family doctor and have initiated the registration process with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS). I am able to provide documentation from my physician, as well as records of counselling and medical consultations, in addition to documentation confirming my leave from Ontario.

During the Fall term exam period, I became extremely ill and was required to defer four final examinations. I obtained a medical note from the physician at the clinic I visited, and my request for academic consideration to defer these exams was approved (the sick note for the fall exam period is attached below). While recovering at home during the winter break, I continued studying and preparing to the best of my ability. However, when I came back to queens in January to and on the day of the exam, I experienced overwhelming stress related to my ongoing health concerns from December, the transition into a new term, and the pressure of completing five back-to-back final examinations. As a result, I was unable to proceed with the exam.

On that same day, I contacted a Nurse Practitioner in distress and was referred to the Care Office for support. On February 6, 2026, the Care Office contacted my professor on my behalf to explore available options. After reaching out and discussion with Prof Anne Topper my professor responded to support my request of late drop.

Moving forward, I am taking proactive measures to ensure stability and academic success. I am finalizing my registration with QSAS, maintaining contact with the Care Office, and engaging with Student Academic Success Services (SASS) to develop appropriate supports and strategies. My goal is to establish the necessary accommodations and structure to prevent similar circumstances in the future.

I sincerely regret the impact this situation has had on my academic record and remain committed to managing my health and academic responsibilities effectively. Given these documented and extenuating circumstances, I respectfully request approval of a late course drop.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
