Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I hereby request to withdraw from course (Course Code: MATH225), which I have already enrolled this semester. I am aware that the withdrawal deadline has passed, and therefore I wish to frankly explain the reasons for this application.

At the beginning of the semester, I enrolled in this course out of a strong academic interest. Since it is an elective completely outside my major, my aim was to broaden my knowledge without affecting my degree requirements. To meet the challenge, I proactively marked this course as a Personal Interest Credit (PIC) to demonstrate that I was aware of the risks and was striving to handle them responsibly.

However, as the semester progressed, I found the course far more difficult than I had anticipated. More importantly, the cumulative workload of my required major courses this semester also exceeded expectations, leaving me with insufficient time and energy to diligently complete this elective. By the time I realized the seriousness of the problem, the withdrawal deadline had passed.

I want to clearly state that I admit I did not act sooner. I did not withdraw before the deadline because I hoped my PIC designation would serve as protection, and I had also been diligently trying to keep up with the course progress. Looking back, I should have sought help from my advisor at the beginning of the semester.

Since this course was an elective and unrelated to my major, the DR designation will not affect my degree progress. I am not trying to shirk academic responsibility—I simply want the opportunity to ensure that this course, which I chose out of a spirit of exploration, will not result in permanent academic punishment.

Thank you for taking the time to review my application.
