Petition Letter
Petition Letter: This semester, I fell into a pretty intense decline of my mental health which has been very hard to find the tools to deal with. It’s been hard to support myself and I seem to have had a lot of trouble reaching out for help. I’m not really sure if there’s something tangible to point to, but I’ve been quite sad. I've recently met with my practitioner who seems to think it is seasonal depression, and has prescribed me with SSRIS.
This decline has made it difficult for me to do basic tasks for lack of energy or motivation to continue on. Amongst these was double checking administrative tasks I had to do.
This semester, I arranged with my professor Rahul Kumar to do a 400-level directed special studies course alongside a friend Nicholas Hash, titled Contractualist Ethics: Scanlon.
I have attended every meeting with Rahul and Nick and have completed all relevant course work, however halfway through the semester I realized I never formally reached out to Sheena Wilkinson, the undergraduate program assistant, to add this class to my SOLUS. This oversight was embarassing and I suspect a cause of my clouded mental state which I hadn't contended with, which made it difficult for me to confess and reach out. After encouragement from Nick and my general practitioner, I reached out to Sheena in March, though only received a response at the start of April after following up, who informed me about the petition process, which I was previously unaware of. I recognize this is beyond the deadline, though due to my unawareness of these deadlines and mental stagnation, it was structurally extremely difficult for me to have recognized and done the proper administrative work within the deadline. I would be beyond grateful for leniency on this front.
I am writing to request this course can be added to my SOLUS and will promptly pay for it to receive the credit for the class.
I intend to attach documents certifying my attendance from Rahul Kumar, as well as a verification of extenuating circumstances form which spanned February to April from my practitioner as I learned to deal with my mental health problems, to illustrate how difficult this was for me to recognize.
Please do let me know if there's any additional information you neded.
