Petition Letter: I am requesting a late withdrawal from this course due to a tonsil infection that became quite severe over the past few weeks and significantly impacted my ability to keep up with the course. I first went to a walk-in clinic on March 23 when symptoms started, with my tonsils slightly enlarged and I was told to return if things got worse. By March 29, it had worsened significantly I was having trouble breathing through my mouth and swallowing because my tonsils were extremely swollen and infected. Since then, I’ve been dealing with ongoing symptoms including a high fever, tonsils still incredibly, difficulty eating solid food and difficulty sleeping. The first round of antibiotics did not resolve the infection, and I had to go on a second round through a telehealth appointment. I also now have a consultation booked with an ENT specialist to discuss possibly having my tonsils removed. Unfortunately, this all happened during a very important time in the semester when major assignments and exam preparation were due. Although I did receive an extension, I have not been well enough to complete the coursework or study properly. I am still not feeling well, and I have not been able to prepare for the final exam at all. I was able to complete work for another course IDIS 280, but only because I had already done most of it before I got sick. That wasn’t the case for this course, and I have fallen too far behind while trying to recover. I also experienced an issue with the Academic Consideration portal and wasn’t able to submit my request until April 1 after contacting IT for help. Given how much course content I’ve missed and how unwell I still feel, I don’t think I can complete this course to the best of my ability. I would really appreciate the opportunity to withdraw and retake it in a future semester when I am in better health. I really hope this is possible. Thank you for your time and consideration.
