Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally request that my final mark in [Course Code and Title] be reviewed since I feel that it does not fairly reflect my comprehension of the course because of extraordinary and documented circumstances.
I had serious personal and mental health issues this semester, chief among them being the loss of my 11.5-year-old dog. My capacity to concentrate on my academic obligations was significantly disrupted by this issue, which demanded all of my attention, including traveling to Toronto to look for her. I found it difficult to properly prepare for important tests as a result.
I was under approved academic consideration and medical advice during this time, in addition to my personal issues. My doctor's documentation attests to the fact that I was undergoing an adjustment reaction as a result of major life stressors and that a postponed examination was advised. This demonstrates that events outside of my control had an impact on my academic achievement during this period.
In particular, my academic consideration status prevented me from finishing the final quiz/exam and I did poorly on a midterm. But my midterm's weight was transferred to the final exam, which I was likewise unable to finish for the same verified reasons. As a result, even though I had legitimate academic consideration in both cases, a sizable percentage of my grade was decided by tests that I could not reasonably finish.
Crucially, I did well on other course components, like as assignments, which I think better capture my comprehension of the subject and my involvement with the course during the semester.
I humbly ask that my grade be reevaluated in a way that accurately represents my academic achievement in light of these circumstances. In particular, I would be very grateful for the chance to take a deferred or alternate assessment, or for my mark to be reweighted toward completed coursework (such as assignments).
I want to underline that I am fully accountable for my academic development and that I am dedicated to proving that I comprehend the subject matter. All I'm requesting is a fair chance to be assessed under circumstances that take into consideration the stated difficulties I encountered.
I sincerely appreciate your attention and time. I truly appreciate the chance to have my case examined.
