Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to request Credit (CR) standing in PSYC 100 following an issue that occurred during the midyear exam.

During the exam, I completed the questions in the booklet and recorded my answers there, but I failed to properly transfer my responses onto the bubble sheet before the exam concluded. This was a mistake on my part, and I fully acknowledge that I did not follow the required procedure correctly. However, this error does not reflect my understanding of the course material or the effort I put into the course throughout the term.

This situation was not due to a lack of preparation or engagement. I attended lectures and labs, completed course work, and remained involved in the course. The mistake occurred under exam conditions, where I became overly focused on completing the questions and lost track of time, which led to me not correctly filling out the bubble sheet. While I understand that instructions regarding the use of bubble sheets were provided, this was an unusual academic error rather than a reflection of my academic ability.

As a result, my current standing in the course is based on an incomplete record of my exam performance, which significantly misrepresents my actual knowledge and work in the course. Receiving a failing grade under these circumstances would not accurately reflect my performance across the term, but rather a single procedural mistake made during a high-pressure exam setting.

Since the exam, I have taken steps to ensure that this type of mistake does not happen again. I have been more mindful of time management during assessments and careful about following all procedural instructions. This experience has reinforced the importance of double-checking requirements in exam settings.

I understand the policies around exam procedures and take responsibility for my error. However, I am respectfully requesting consideration for Credit (CR) standing in this course, as the outcome of this mistake is disproportionate to my actual academic performance and understanding of the material.
