Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to formally request that the following courses be dropped from my academic record due to circumstances that significantly impacted my academic performance during the Fall 2026 term:
POLS 111
PHIL 157
RELS 132
SOCY 100
During the Fall 2026 semester (September–December 2026), I experienced significant mental health challenges that were beyond my control, which affected my ability to fully engage with my coursework. These difficulties began early in the term in September and became more pronounced throughout October and November, which are key academic periods involving midterms and major assignments.
As a result, I struggled with concentration, consistency in attending lectures, and keeping up with course requirements. This led me to fall behind in multiple courses, particularly during the midterm period (October–early November) and into the latter part of the semester. My performance on assignments and evaluations during this time does not accurately reflect my academic abilities.
At the time, I worked to manage the situation and sought support. Since the end of the term, I have taken more concrete steps to address my mental health, including beginning a treatment plan and switching to effective medication. As a result, my condition has improved significantly, and I am now better equipped to manage my academic responsibilities.
I take responsibility for my academic record; however, the challenges I experienced during this period had a meaningful and direct impact on my ability to perform across these courses.
Given these circumstances, I respectfully request that POLS 111, PHIL 157, RELS 132, and SOCY 100 be dropped from my academic record.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Nathan Jiang
