Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
I've been struggling the past 2 years approximately with at first dealing with debilitating migraines which are all documented by QSAS for queens. I was dealing with migraines consistently on a week to week basis which had an impact on my academic work which I had sent a petition for in the past. As a result of my migraines affecting my ability to do academic work I began to experience anxiety with regards to academics as a whole. After dealing with consistent migraines and anxiety I had been reached a depressive state where I was unable to continue studying or even performing basic daily tasks. I turned to counseling in the form of psycho therapy and was diagnosed with ADHD which was determined to be another factor that was affecting my situation. I have started medication for the ADHD diagnosis and anxiety recently. In the fall semester 2025 I completed one online course as I thought it would be a good way to get back into academics at a slow controlled pace and I successfully completed that course. In the winter semester things were going very well up until about midterms (~week 8) when I started to deal with a combination of migraines, anxiety, and ADHD symptoms which hadn't been as much of an issue in the first half of the semester. At that point again I closed up and was unable to continue academic work. I did not contact any professors or queens representatives which I know is improper, this lack of communication was due to the anxiety that was making it difficult at the time to communicate with anyone let alone Queens representatives. At that point a turned to counciling more as my anxiety had worsened and it was determined that I had ADHD. Moving forward I now have a more clear picture with regards to my anxiety, ADHD, and migraines. I would like nothing more than to make a tailored plan to help me graduate with these disabilities in mind. I feel an intentional break from classes would do me well for the summer and perhaps a return to classes in the fall semester in September 2026 with some new accommodations in place and strategies to deal with my conditions. I feel like when things are going well I can perform at a satisfactory level academically as shown by my fall semester and the first half of the winter semester. But I feel I need better strategies for when my mental health declines or when I'm experiencing high volume of migraines or anxiety.
Kind regards,
Alejandro Galiano.
