Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Math 281:
I have just found out that I have failed the hardest class at Queen’s – Real Analysis (Math 281), for the second time by only 6%. I underestimated how hard this class was the first time, so this year, I was very focused on success but I received next to no support from my professor. I made efforts to meet with my professor after every exam in order to get feedback and to better understand where I needed to improve. For my first midterm, my professor did not answer my email asking to meet with her after 2 weeks. I then emailed someone else in math, Israte Afroze (undergraduate chair of math I believe) to request that I receive a response. After the email from the Israte, my professor did respond to me and we met to review my exam, however, the meeting lasted less than 5 minutes and provided me with no more actionable feedback then before. For my second midterm (we only had the two midterms), I did not get this final midterm back until 2 weeks after the final exam. As well, my second midterm was marked incorrectly as a 0% (my professor did not even look at it), which I expressed to my professor, and had to fight to change this mark, all after I had written the final exam. As she took a second look, I still believe it was graded unfairly, with little to no feedback. As a result, I had very little feedback prior to the final exam nor did I really know what my weaknesses were going into the exam. It has been very frustrating working with this professor. I felt very lost in this class and did not have the appropriate feedback to succeed despite my efforts which is why I am appealing for a change to my final grade. I worked very hard on all homework assignments, I attended all classes and studied for months for every midterm/exam. I appreciate any assistance you can offer so I can put this class behind me. I can provide any email exchanges required as well, whatever is needed.

Math 385:
In this class, I only require 1.61% to pass, and I have done okay in the class thus far. I emailed my professor to review and change my grade, and he seemed willing however he said he cannot do anything after the grades have been submitted, which is why I would like to submit an appeal to gain the 1.6% required to pass this class. I can provide any documentation if needed of our emails as well.

Thank you so much,
Best.
Yasmine

Amendment to Appeal 14265

Relevant Petition: 14265
New Information: I was told to reach out to my professors for both classes to have an informal review within 15 days of receiving the grades I am contesting. For math 281, my professor replied to my request and said no I am not available, and for math 385 my professor is on vacation until may 22nd, which is far past the within 15 days deadline.

Please let me know if I must submit a new petition with this information, or if you require any more supporting documentation as well.

I really appreciate your help,
Best,
Yasmine
