Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Director (Studies),

I am writing to request an extension for my deferred exam: Block Theory 3 in the course ANAT 100.

The reason for my petition is extenuating medical circumstances that have severely impacted my ability to prepare for this exam. I am currently receiving treatment from the university psychiatrist, and I am following the medication dose given to me. Although I have been taking the appropriate steps to manage and alleviate my condition, my symptoms have significantly worsened over roughly the past 10 days.

During this time, I have oftentimes experienced extreme fatigue, low energy, and difficulty getting out of bed. These symptoms have made it very hard for me to focus, study, and prepare at all for the deferred exam. As a result, I have not been able to complete the necessary preparation for the exam by the current date.

However, before these past 10 days, I was able to study and manage my coursework while continuing my treatment plan. However, over the past 10 days, my condition has worsened significantly despite taking my prescribed medication and receiving psychiatric care.

To address this challenge, I have an appointment with my psychiatrist tomorrow, May 12th, as this is her earliest appointment date possible. I am seeking this extension so that I may have the necessary time to plan out a future treatment plan with my psychiatrist and be able to go back to where I was 10 days ago and continue my coursework. This way, I can be physically able to prepare properly for the exam.

I respectfully ask that my petition for an extension of the deferred exam be considered. Thank you for your time and consideration.
