Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dean of Associates,

I am writing to respectfully request Credit Standing (CR) consideration for GEOL 200 and PSYC 221 for the fall/winter 2025-2026 academic year.

Over this past academic year, I have been struggling with ongoing mental health and academic functioning difficulties that negatively impacted and affected my performance in these courses. During this period, I was dealing with low moods, loss of motivation, overwhelming stress, and emotional exhaustion that increasingly affected my ability to manage coursework and perform effectively in an academic setting. Although I was not formally diagnosed at the time, I recognized that my symptoms were consistent with depression and anxiety.

As these challenges became worse, I developed patterns of avoidance and found it difficult to keep a consistent study pattern, which would've helped me prepare for my exams better. During the major examination period, I had struggled with organizing my thoughts and performing at a level that reflected my actual understanding of the material.

I recognize that I should've sought help and support earlier, and I take full responsibility for my academic performance. Since talking with my academic advisor, I started taking steps towards addressing these concerns, including talking to counsellors and working on building a healthier academic structure and plan, and also building a better stress management strategy and study habits moving forward.

I am requesting Credit Standing because I completed the courses and received the credit, but my final grades were heavily impacted by the circumstances that I had described above, and do not accurately represent me as a student, and overall effort and engagement in the courses. I will remain committed to improving my academic performance moving forward, and believe that Credit Standing consideration would provide me with the opportunity to continue rebuilding my academic standing successfully.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Aarushi Dixit
