Petition Letter: Re: French 100 Request for Reconsideration
I am writing to seek a re-classification of my failing grade in French last year and to seek to have this changed from an F to a No Grade on my academic record. I attach a copy of my transcript for your information.
I suffer from severe anxiety diagnosed by a mental health professional. I had the worst year of my life last year being away from home for the first time. I had serious issues with residence which seriously aggravated my problem and hindered my ability to focus enough to study. I did not want to disappoint or worry my parents by telling them just how unbearable my situation was and I was too scared and anxious to approach the administration.
The French course required public speaking in small groups. My anxiety which had been aggravated by my circumstances prevented me from participating in this setting. I was often unable to attend class as a result. I was a French immersion student until Grade 9 and I achieved a mark in the high 80s in advanced French in Grade 12 at Havergal College. This mark is not an accurate reflection of my facility in French but of my mental health issue. I am trying to deal with my problem and have sought professional assistance. The mark on my transcript of this situation has, however, put me on academic probation and severely limited my options on where I can go with my education. I find myself worrying excessively about this mark which is not helping me move forward, overcome my problem and attempt to achieve my full potential.
I also attach a letter from Dr. Elisabeth Saunders, a clinical psychologist who I have seen to help me with my anxiety. I am seeking ongoing assistance for this issue.
It would greatly help me if the pressure of the F on my transcript were removed in all of the circumstances and I thank you for your consideration in this regard.
