Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: My name is Qixin Cao, and I am writing to respectfully submit a petition regarding my enrollment in Summer MATH 121. I am hoping to be given the opportunity to re-enroll in this course, as it is extremely important for my academic plan and future degree progression.
I am currently trying to enter the Honours Mathematics Degree Plan. As I understand it, one of the requirements is to achieve at least a C in one MATH 1xx course. MATH 121 is therefore a crucial course for me, because if I am not able to complete it and meet the required grade, I will have to remain in the General Science degree plan instead of being able to move forward toward Honours Mathematics. For this reason, being enrolled in MATH 121 this summer has a direct and significant impact on my academic future.
The circumstance surrounding my petition is that I previously contacted my professor to ask whether it was necessary and appropriate for me to take MATH 121 during the summer. However, I did not receive a response in time, and because I was uncertain about my course plan, I mistakenly dropped MATH 121 from SOLUS. I now realize that this course is essential for my intended degree plan, and I sincerely regret the mistake. My intention was never to give up the opportunity to take the course, but rather I was trying to make the correct academic decision with the information I had at the time.
I understand that MATH 121 is an accelerated summer course and that the workload is heavy. However, I am fully aware of the challenge and am prepared to take the course seriously. Entering the Honours Mathematics Degree Plan is very important to me, and I am willing to put in the necessary time and effort to meet the required standard. I believe that being allowed to take MATH 121 this summer would give me a fair opportunity to demonstrate my ability and commitment to continuing in mathematics.
I respectfully ask that you consider my petition and allow me to re-enroll in Summer MATH 121 if there is any possibility to do so. I would be very grateful for your understanding and assistance, as this course is essential for my academic progression.
