Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am petitioning in request to waive the petition deadline for two scheduled deferred exams which I was unable to write at the scheduled time of the deferred exam.
I was unable to submit my petition before the deadline as I suffered a concussion the night prior to the first exam, on Monday, May 18th. The deadline to submit the petition as is listed is “prior to the deadline for the submission of the outstanding exam”. For my deferred exams in POLS383 and POLS350, these deadlines were Tuesday, May 19th, and Wednesday, May 20th.
Given the concussion which I suffered on Monday, May 18th, I was experiencing severe light sensitivity and significant amounts of pain, as well as nausea, on Tuesday, May 19th, Wednesday, May 20th, and Thursday, May 21st. I am still experiencing quite significant light sensitivity, as well as headaches and regional pain at the point of contact where I hit my head, however the nausea has subsided. I was unable to leave my house, or walk for extended periods of time, until today, Friday, May 22nd.
With this, I was unfortunately unable to complete the petition to the Associate Dean by the deadlines due to the severe pain which I was experiencing in the days directly following my concussion, and am still finding it difficult to be on my computer for extended periods of time, with writing this letter alone being difficult and needing to be broken up into several small chunks. I was able to attend the walk-in clinic today and receive medical care, and I am hoping to feel better enough to write the petition(s) by Wednesday, May 27th by the latest, unless I experience a significant increase in symptoms during this time.

I am able to gather whatever documentation is required, as I am realizing upon upload that the note provided does not specify my injury nor the duration of the symptoms. I am unsure why, but am able to attend the clinic again to gather further documentation if necessary.
