Petition Letter: Re: Petition for Credit Standing Regarding ECON 111 Final Grade

Dear Dean Nelson,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to respectfully submit a petition regarding my final grade in ECON 111 from the Fall 2025 semester. I am requesting consideration to receive credit standing due to documented extenuating medical circumstances that significantly impacted my academic performance during that term.

From the beginning of the semester onward, I underwent many doctor’s appointments and experienced severe medical complications that affected my ability to manage my coursework and perform academically at my usual standard. The physical complications were so severe that they were debilitating and often led me to the emergency room, where I spent countless hours waiting to be seen. These complications and subsequent hospital visits impacted my attendance, as well as my ability to complete coursework. My capability to properly learn the content and prepare for the examinations was severely affected. My symptoms continued to worsen to the point where emergency surgery was required, which I received in Toronto on December 17th, 2025.

The impact of these circumstances is reflected not only in my performance in ECON 111 but across my grades during that period. In contrast, my academic performance improved substantially in the following semester once my health stabilized, demonstrating a much stronger overall grade distribution. I have medical documentation available that outlines the timeline and severity of these circumstances, which I have attached in support of this petition.

Additionally, ECON 111 was taken outside of my program requirements, and I enrolled in it primarily out of personal interest rather than as a required course for my degree progression.
I fully understand and respect the academic standards and policies of the university, and I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing my petition. I would be extremely grateful for any flexibility or guidance that may be possible considering these circumstances.
