Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am requesting a CR in my IDIS and REPD courses from my Winter 2026 semester. My performance in these courses was significantly impacted by my extenuating circumstance, which was the exacerbation of my mental disorders registered in VENTUS. Specifically, OCD, ADHD, but the most impactful one was episodic depression.

I experienced depressive episodes throughout this semester. I would guess that this started about two weeks into the semester. The depressive episodes caused low mood, low motivation, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, feelings of hopelessness. These symptoms made it incredibly difficult to complete school work. It was difficult enough to even get out of bed each day, so you can imagine how hard it was to get myself to study. Due to my psychological condition, I did not have the mental capacity to be able to keep on top of notes, which then heavily impacted my performance on assignments (which I sometimes didn't hand in, or only partially completed) and proctored assessments.

My depression also heavily impacted my sleep, which made everything that much harder.

I was not diagnosed with episodic depression until earlier this year. After these depressive episodes had gotten really bad, I started seeing a therapist through QSAS. She helped me a bit, but it was still extremely difficult to study. There were some assignments I only partially completed, some that I didn't submit at all and my midterm in the REPD class was the worse mark I've ever gotten on a midterm. This semester my GPA was the lowest it's ever been in my entire academic career, which goes to show how heavily impacted I was. Before this semester, I had only ever gotten 3 grades below a B-, this is totally out of the ordinary for me, providing insight into the psychological warfare I was experiencing. I always gave everything I had, but I often did not have a lot to give. My school work kept piling up and no matter how hard I tried, I did not have the will power to keep up due to my psychological state.

I have contacted both my instructors for IDIS and REPD and they have expressed their support for this CR application. My therapist has also written a letter that explains how I was impacted this semester, which I can provide if necessary.
