Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: At the beginning of the summer term, I did not believe I would be able to afford more than one summer course and therefore only enrolled in MATH 225. As I am responsible for covering my own educational and living expenses and my OSAP does not cover all costs, I made my initial course selection based on what I believed I could financially manage at the time.

After receiving my final grades from the winter term, which was my most challenging semester so far academically, I had to look at my academic plan and look at options to strengthen my academic standing. I have been accepted for an exchange program in Winter 2027, and I am currently trying to maintain my GPA above the required threshold for exchange eligibility. Given the limited number of summer courses available that fit within my program requirements, MATH 121 is the most appropriate option available to me.

Before the add deadline, I attempted to enroll in MATH 121 but the course was full and had a waitlist of approximately 30 students. Given the size of the waitlist, I did not reasonably expect a seat to become available before the deadline. When I checked again after the deadline had passed, I found that there were open seats in the course but I was no longer able to add it through SOLUS.

I have previously completed MATH 121 and am familiar with the course material but would like to retake it to help strengthen my foundational math skills and improve my performance in the class. In addition, I am currently enrolled in MATH 225 and have already reviewed some of the overlapping concepts. Because of this background, I am confident that I can catch up on missed material and successfully complete the course despite the late addition.
