Petition Letter

Petition Letter:
I am writing to respectfully request a waiver of my Required to Withdraw academic standing to continue as a part of the Bachelor of Computing program. I have given extreme thought to my performance in the past and have developed a realistic plan for the future. I struggled with multiple failed and incomplete courses over the past year, especially while carrying a full load of demanding Computing and Mathematics classes.
The main factors of my poor performance being mental health issues including severe overwhelm and anxiety, along with a major financial setback. My OSAP funding was denied with key responses received on August 6, September 15, 2025 along with March 13th, May 9th 2026. Around the same time as the first two responses, I signed a new lease for an apartment in Kingston to start August 20, 2025 at $1,250 per month. The layering of pressures created by financial instability and stress meant it was very difficult to stay focused and to manage my workload efficiently. At the time I was hesitant to seek external help, which is why I do not have formal medical documentation.
I have a very strong passion for the Bachelor of Computing program. My resume shows a real interest and experience in tech related work prior to this time. I love working with computers and technology however due to extenuating circumstances I had had issues pursuing that goal to the best of my abilities. Please be advised that the address currently on file for me is incorrect. My new address is 652 Princess Street, Unit 238, Kingston, ON K7L 1E5.
Since then I have been in full control of my mental health and have steadily improved. I created a schedule for regular sleep and study times, began to exercise daily by walking, made time for self care to relieve stress and relied more on friends for support. These changes are already yielding results. I improved academically in my Winter term with better grades due to better preparation and time management. To improve, I plan to finish all assignments early, stick to a weekly study schedule, use a detailed weekly planner, and review course material earlier in the semester to create better planners in order to never get behind again.
Thank you for reading my petition. I respectfully request that the Committee approve the waiver of the one year RTW academic standing so that I may register for Summer 2026 courses. I am happy to give any further information required including my unofficial transcript as soon as I can access it.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I have created a performance based academic recovery plan to gradually strengthen my foundation and to address the workload management and pacing problems that had affected me in the last year. My goal is to achieve the Computing degree.
I intend to take a lighter load with CISC 101 and CISC 102(retakes) in Summer 2026(July-August). This will help me to return back to university life with less pressure and regain the basic foundation for computing. I plan to take a near full course load of CISC 121, MATH 121 (Calculus I) and ARIN 100 in Fall 2026. This term will be the first real test of my ability to succeed in something with close to normal academic conditions. For Winter 2027 I will take MATH 121 (Calculus I continued), MATH 112 (Algebra), and PHIL 260 as a stabilizing course. I will only take CISC 124 if my performance in the fall shows that I am able handle another course making a normal term load.
To help me succeed I have already started doing things like planning weeks in advance with detailed planners and self care routines to better my habits and build a consistent schedule and always have motivation. I will continue these practices and utilize Queen’s support services including the Student Wellness Centre for ongoing mental health maintenance and Academic Advising for course planning. I will also be careful to balance my studies with external factors and keep track of my workload so as to avoid overload. I am sure that this step-by-step approach and the improvements I made on a personal level, help me to make steady progress towards finishing my degree.
