Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to request a waiver of the petition deadline in order to seek a retroactive withdrawal for courses taken during the May-July 2015 term.

During that summer, I experienced a severe mental health crisis that significantly affected my ability to function academically and deal with university processes at the time. My Queen’s fee audit shows a self-drop attempt for July 28, 2015, which occurred after the academic deadline and was therefore not processed. Shortly after this, I withdrew from the university.

Following my departure from Queen’s, I had no further contact with the institution for several years and understood my academic record at the time to be closed.

I have since returned to Queen’s as a non-degree interest student and currently completing the General Alternate Progression Route, which requires completion of 36 credits and a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA for eligibility to apply for the Bachelor of Health Sciences program. During this time, I was also working through unrelated account and billing discrepancies with the university, and it was in the course of resolving these matters that I became aware of the consolidation of my academic record and the impact of the 2015 courses on my current GPA. These grades now directly affect my cumulative GPA and progression eligibility.

Upon discovering this issue, I contacted the university to clarify my record and understand the available options.

Given the documented withdrawal attempt in 2015, my departure from the university during that period, and the delayed discovery of the impact following the consolidation of my student records, I am requesting that the petition deadline be waived so that my request for retroactive withdrawal may be considered.
