Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Fiona Yuxin Yao, and I am currently a student at Queen’s University. I am writing to respectfully ask the committee to reconsider the

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: After receiving the university’s decision, I started taking my health situation much more seriously and began following my doctor’s recommendations. I plan to continue regular treatment and counselling, attend follow-up appointments, and keep track of my sleep and emotional condition. I will also stay in regular contact with my Academic Advisor and seek help when I encounter difficulties, rather than trying to handle everything on my own. In addition, I plan to build a more consistent daily routine, maintain a healthy sleep schedule, and involve my family more closely in supporting both my studies and my personal well-being.

Besides improving my health, I have also made a clear academic plan for the next academic year. I plan to retake GPHY 101, which I withdrew from during 2026 Fall, and I also plan to repeat the Psychology course that I previously failed. During the summer, I will review the course materials and strengthen my understanding of the foundational concepts before returning to school. I also plan to take CLST 103. History and geography have always been subjects that genuinely interest me, and they were also some of the subjects I enjoyed studying the most during high school. Over the past several months, I have spent time thinking carefully about my academic goals and future direction. I am interested in pursuing a Geography major in the future, and the courses I plan to take next year are part of that academic pathway. Having a clearer academic goal has given me more motivation and direction than I had when I first started university.

The difficulties I experienced during my first year do not reflect my true academic ability or my commitment to my education. My academic performance was heavily affected by the anxiety, insomnia, and depression that I experienced throughout the year. I have now started treatment, developed a clear academic plan, and taken concrete steps to prepare for my return to study. I believe I am better prepared than I was when I first entered university, and I am ready to return with stronger support systems, healthier habits, and a clearer sense of direction.

I truly value the opportunity to study at Queen’s University and hope to complete my degree here. I take responsibility for the difficulties I experienced over the past year and am committed to making the necessary changes in the future. I respectfully ask the committee to consider my medical circumstances and my treatment plan and allow me the opportunity to continue my studies. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my appeal and consider my request.
