RE: Appealing to Late Drop CHEM 112, MATH 112, & MATH 121
Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I am writing this letter to ask for permission to do a late drop for the courses CHEM 112, held within both fall and winter semester, MATH 112, held during the winter semester and MATH 121, held during fall and winter semester.

During the fall semester, I began to experience mental health challenges that impacted my ability to attend classes and to complete coursework and examinations to the best of my abilities. As my conditioned worsened into the winter semester, I struggled with concentration, motivations and managing my academic responsibilities. Unfortunately, these difficulties led to my unsuccessful completion of the courses mentioned above.

My academic record better reflects my abilities and commitment as a student. The failed courses were not the result of lack of effort or interest in my studies, but rather the direct consequence of documented mental health circumstances that impaired not only my academic functioning but my way of life in general.

I have taken the necessary steps to address these challenges and improve my well-being, including attend counselling, taking prescribed medications for treatment, and enrolling with QSASS. I am committed to continuing my education and maintaining stronger academic performance moving forward.

Given the significant impact that my mental health had on my ability to successfully complete these courses, I respectfully request that a late drop be granted for CHEM 112, MATH 112, and MATH 121. I believe this outcome would more accurately reflect the extenuating circumstances that affected my academic performance during the academic year 2025/2026. I have attached supporting documentation for your consideration.

Thank you for your time, understanding and consideration of my appeal. I appreciate the opportunity to explain my circumstances.

Sincerely,
Sanaa A. McKenzie
