Petition Letter: Dear Dean,
I am writing to respectfully petition for an exception to the standard 6-unit limit for courses taken at an external institution. My name is Lexi Sim, and I am currently enrolled as a student in the Bachelor of Arts Psychology Program. I am requesting approval to complete additional units at Athabasca University during Fall 2026 to fulfill outstanding degree requirements and remain on track to graduate within the academic year.
The primary extenuating circumstance motivating this petition is the urgency of completing my degree requirements within the current academic year. Certain courses essential to the completion of my degree program are not offered at Queens during the relevant term or are unavailable to me due to scheduling conflicts or enrollment limitations beyond my control. As a result, I have identified equivalent courses at Athabasca that satisfy the outstanding requirements and are otherwise unavailable to me through my home institution currently.
This situation has directly affected my academic planning and progress. Without access to the required courses at my home institution, I risk delaying my graduation beyond my intended completion date, which would have significant personal and financial consequences.
In response to these circumstances, I have taken proactive steps to ensure that my academic trajectory remains on course I have reviewed the course syllabi and confirmed the equivalency of the external courses with the relevant faculty member(s) at my home institution.
I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration of this petition. I am committed to fulfilling all academic requirements with the same dedication I have demonstrated throughout my studies. Academic Plan: In conjunction with my petition to take more than 6 units at an external institution, I am pleased to submit this academic plan outlining how I intend to achieve academic success and complete my degree requirements within the current academic year. This plan has been developed and reflects a deliberate and realistic approach to ensuring a strong and timely academic finish.
My academic plan is driven by a specific and time-sensitive goal: to complete all outstanding degree requirements and graduate by Spring 2027 or sooner. Taking these courses externally is the most direct and viable path to graduation within my intended timeline.
To ensure I am in the best position to succeed, I have structured my course load for the upcoming term carefully. Rather than overextending myself, I have selected a balanced combination of courses This load is manageable given the nature of the courses.
I have also put in place several personal and institutional support structures to help me stay on track. Should any difficulties emerge with the external courses, I am prepared to seek assistance promptly rather than allowing issues to compound.
Looking beyond this term, my academic plan accounts for a smooth and successful conclusion to my studies. I do not anticipate needing to take any courses beyond this plan, and I am confident that with the support structures described above, I will be well-positioned to graduate in good academic standing.
