Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am submitting this petition to request permission to enroll in CHEM 114 after the course add deadline has passed. I understand that the deadline for adding courses has passed and that CHEM 114 is listed as an exclusion with CHEM 112 which I have taken. However, I am requesting permission to enroll because this course would provide me with an important opportunity to improve my academic standing.

Over the past year, my academic performance was impacted by several personal and financial circumstances that made it difficult to balance my coursework and other responsibilities. I have been working to support myself while attending university, and managing that alongside a demanding academic schedule became very challenging for me. This affected my ability to dedicate the necessary time and consistency to a full course load, particularly during my most difficult semester academically.

Since then, I have been actively taking steps to improve my academic performance and rebuild my GPA. Maintaining a strong academic standing is especially important because I have been accepted for an upcoming exchange opportunity that requires me to maintain a minimum GPA. I have taken one summer course already to help improve it. Improving my GPA before the fall semester is extremely important to me, as this is my final opportunity to make a meaningful improvement before the next academic year begins.

I understand that CHEM 114 is listed as an exclusion with CHEM 112 and that it may not count toward my degree requirements. However, I understand that the course would still contribute toward my GPA, which is why I am requesting the opportunity to enroll.

I am taking this as a learning opportunity to be more mindful of my limits when balancing employment and coursework and ensure that I do not take on responsibilities that negatively impact my academic success.
