Academic Appeal for Extenuating Circumstances

I would like to formally request the opportunity to do a late drop of the following courses, MUSC 171 and DEVS 101, as a result of a traumatic medical incident that took place during the previous school year. I have attached the medical documentation, and I can get additional documentation if required.
I was kicked in the back by a horse and broke L1,and L2 vertebra and L2 and L3 transverse processes in my back. This incident impacted my ability to effectively complete the courses, because of intense pain and follow up recovery steps. I was very lucky that this was the only injury. I had intense pain walking and I was using a wheelchair to get around to appointments for the first week. I was unable to sit and complete my work or study, due to the nature of the break sitting was excruciating, so was walking and standing. It also greatly impacted on my ability to sleep. Until 4 weeks post break, I was slightly more comfortable to be able to start slowly moving around. This severely impacted my entire life. I need to still be extremely careful with my back as I am at serious risk of reinjury. I continue to have regular physiotherapy sessions as my recovery is still ongoing.
I plan on continuing my education to become a teacher, and I hope to be able to push past my major injury and still be able to foster the next generation’s learning. I have been a horseback-riding coach for 5 years; this is where I truly found my love for teaching. I still love horses and I want to be able to find a way where I can help others while keeping myself safer. I plan to become a secondary school teacher, with my teachables in History and English.
