Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to request the following: first, permission to exceed the 6.0-unit Summer 2026 enrolment maximum by 3.0 units; and second, approval of the associated Letter of Permission for COMP 452 at Athabasca University. Together, these would allow me to complete my final degree requirement in time to graduate in Fall 2026.
To be fully transparent about my course load: my current Summer 2026 enrolment of 6.0 units consists of two courses taken on Letters of Permission, the equivalents of MATH 112 and CISC 352, both currently in progress and proceeding on schedule. Adding COMP 452 would bring my total summer load to 9.0 units. Once these three courses are complete, I will have satisfied all of my degree requirements; COMP 452 is the last outstanding one.
The circumstance underlying this request is a matter of course availability rather than academic performance: the one remaining course I require is not offered at Queen's during the Summer 2026 term. I reviewed the Queen's summer timetable and alternative offerings, and Athabasca University's COMP 452 was the only equivalent course whose schedule allows completion within the timeframe for fall graduation. Without it, my graduation would be delayed from Fall 2026 to Spring 2027 despite all other requirements being complete.
The timing is workable. Athabasca University uses continuous monthly enrolment with a straightforward registration process, and I am prepared to register immediately upon approval of this petition so that the course begins on the next available monthly start date. The course is self-paced and delivered online with no scheduled meetings, and I plan to complete the coursework and final examination by the end of September 2026, allowing the official transcript to reach Queen's before the Faculty's grade deadline for Fall 2026 graduation.
I have taken the following steps. I met with an academic advisor to confirm my remaining degree requirements and to discuss COMP 452 at Athabasca University as the course to satisfy my final program requirement. My advising report also reflects that these courses keep me within the Faculty's transfer credit requirements.
Regarding workload: because the two courses making up my current 6.0 units are well underway and the Athabasca course is self-paced with its heaviest work falling after my current courses conclude, I am confident the 9.0-unit total is manageable.
I respectfully ask that you grant these requests so that I may complete my degree and graduate in Fall 2026. I am happy to provide any further documentation the Faculty may require.

Course of study: I am registered in my degree plan, Bachelor of Computing (Honours), and I have reviewed my Academic Advisement Report in SOLUS with an academic advisor to confirm my remaining requirements. Following completion of my two current summer courses, the equivalents of MATH 112 and CISC 352, COMP 452 at Athabasca University will be my sole outstanding requirement, and my advisor and I identified it as the appropriate course to complete my degree.
