Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to request approval for a late drop of MATH 121 and ANAT 100 due to documented extenuating medical and personal circumstances beyond my control.
During the 2025 to 2026 academic year, I have experienced several personal and medical difficulties that significantly affected my academics.
One of the biggest challenges was the passing of my grandfather during the winter term. It happened around the time of my MATH 121 midterm, which I missed. Although I received Academic Consideration for that assessment, it became very difficult for me to recover academically afterward. Missing such an important evaluation left me behind in the course, and I was never able to fully catch up.
At the same time, I was also dealing with ongoing symptoms from multiple previous concussions. Throughout the year, I experienced headaches, mental fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, especially during long study sessions and exams. As the year progressed, I realized these problems were not improving, so I completed a neuropsychological assessment. The assessment lead to academic accommodations through QSAS , confirming that these symptoms were affecting my learning. Unfortunately, by the time these supports were in place, I had already struggled through most of the academic year.
These circumstances affected more than one course, but MATH 121 and ANAT 100 were impacted the most. Looking back, I should have reduced my course load or sought additional support earlier. Instead, I kept trying to push through the semester, believing I could recover on my own. That was a mistake, and I have learned from that experience.
Since then, I have taken steps to improve my academic situation. I now have academic accommodations in place, I have worked closely with an Academic Advisor to plan my remaining degree requirements, and I have re-enrolled in ANAT 100 to complete the course successfully. I have also planned a more balanced course schedule that I believe is much more realistic and manageable.
I understand that a late drop is an exceptional request, and I do not make this request lightly. I accept responsibility for my academic record, but I also believe that my performance in these two courses does not accurately reflect my abilities because of the exceptional circumstances I experienced during that academic year.
For these reasons, I respectfully ask that my petition for a late drop of MATH 121 and ANAT 100 be considered.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Harry Hu
