Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: As a proud and passionate feminist, I was and still am very interested in taking GNDS 211 this fall. However, I decided to take more courses that contributed to the requirements of my major which prevented me from enrolling during the enrolment period. Until yesterday, my course configuration contained five history courses, one of which, I have been uncertain about for quite some time. I was trying to give the class a chance, hoping that my interest would be sparked after a few weeks of learning the material. I found myself constantly wishing that I was enrolled in a class that would allow me to express my own views, rather than merely memorize and regurgitate material. GNDS 211 would be a class that would allow me to engage in material I am passionate about and would feed my intellectual curiosity. I am well aware that the enrolment period has far passed, however, I am confident that I have the commitment and time management skills to successfully satisfy the course requirements. I have emailed the professor of GNDS 211 and have seen an academic advisor where I discussed the issue thoroughly. After receiving advice concerning the course's late addition to my configuration, I am still confident that this course will have a positive affect on my fall semester and positively contribute to, rather than hinder, my performance in my other classes. I am mindful that entering this class at this point will require a lot of dedication to catching up. That being said, I currently only have twelve hours of class a week and have the available time to dedicate. My course configuration is comprised of sparse courses from Monday to Thursday, with a lot of free time that I¿¿d be able to dedicate to GNDS 211. In addition, as I do not have class on Fridays, I can dedicate the entire day to catching up on the assignments and readings required for this course. Due to my interest in the course material, I would be more than happy spending my time of leisure in the library informing myself of the different waves of feminism and the role of women in eco-socio-political issues. Furthermore, as this course concerns the historical significance of female empowerment, it would provide me with additional in depth information concerning various topics briefly mentioned in my other history courses, hence improving my all-round archival knowledge. Finally, as a student who is mindful of her academic standings, I would not compromise my current academic involvements with the addition of an other class unless I was passionate about the course and certain that my success in this class was an achievable feat. I look forward to expanding my knowledge in regards to feminist issues and focusing on the the current and past history of with regards to the rise of women empowerment in our patriarchal society.
