Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

New Information: This appeal is pertinent to a previous one that I have sent regarding my credit standing in my first year courses Psych 100 and Soc 122 which I have deemed as inaccurate portrayals of my academic abilities as I was dealing with the passing of a close friend at the time. The relevance of this appeal is to explain why my other appeal was so late. After talking to an academic advisor, I am well aware that I missed the fifteen-day grace period by which appeals for credit standings are accepted. However, as I was already consumed with sadness over my good friend¿¿s death, my other best friend, a student of Queen¿¿s Smith School of Business, was in the process of losing her mother to fourth stage lung and lymph node cancer. On May 5th, Shelley Steiner passed away, and her Shiva began that day. I spent two weeks at my friend¿¿s house, sleeping over, helping prepare meals and clean the house. Her warm and loving family that I had known since I was eleven years old was transformed into a silent commemoration of her mother¿¿s cancer. The Medical equipment and stair lifts unmoved long after the Shiva. This mourning process also surfaced several feelings I had relating to my good friend¿¿s death, and I found myself growing more anxious and sad by the day. I stayed to help my friend¿¿s family until the day before I left for my job at a summer camp on May 20th, where I would have no internet for the next three months. I was preoccupied by so many things that I did not think of checking my grades, nor, in that state of mind, did I really care to see the disastrous effect that my inability to overcome tragedy had on my GPA. I am now resilient, and with a fresh and rejuvenated mind I am ready once again to focus on my academics and perform at the best of my abilities. I was stuck in a rut for a very long time, and all I ask is for this unfortunate situation that I have finally managed to deal with not affect my academic standing.
