Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing study abroad for my winter semester of my third year of an honours program at Tel Aviv University.
It has always been a dream of mine to study abroad. I am a third year student majoring in Gender Studies. Although I am content with my studies at Queen¿¿s University, I believe that there is a lot for me to discover about myself in order to excel to my fullest potential. I believe that the best way to learn is through experience. I pride myself off being an adventurous person who enjoys trying new things and learning from each new experience. Studying away from home will provide me with the opportunity to develop my individuality and understanding of the world. Through leaving my comfort zone and familiarities, I will be able to acquire new advantageous life skills. I believe that Tel Aviv University would be an ideal institute for me to study abroad, for it offers various opportunities that can help me advance in academic, professional and personal life aspects.
Why Israel Israel is a country where education is of major importance. Being in such an environment will encourage me to continue taking my studies very seriously. Tel Aviv University has over 15,000 international students; this will allow me to meet people from all over the world. By entering a new community, I will be able to meet new people with different life experiences of which we can share and learn from one another. In terms of life experience ¿¿ Israel has a lot to offer; being a young, lively, religiously and culturally diverse country. If I am to study in Israel, I will take the opportunity to travel the country and visit its numerous historical sites. Coming from a Jewish background, I would also be happy to study in Israel because it will allow for me to learn more about my heritage and religion.
With a wide range of activities, a diverse student body, and a supportive faculty system, Tel Aviv University has created an environment of self-discovery. If granted the opportunity to attend this university, I would like to involve myself in campus life through engaging in different activities. In doing so, I will be able to form a sense of community and belonging outside of my academia. Moreover, I am excited to meet new people, join an atmosphere of spirit and be given the opportunity to form everlasting friendships.
Although I am studying gender studies for my undergraduate degree, I am not exactly sure what career path I would like to follow. I believe that studying at TAU will allow for me to explore new interests that will, in turn, help me decide what to do in order to excel to my fullest potential both academically and professionally. Furthermore, the study abroad program will allow me to fully immerse myself in a new environment that will allow for autonomy and personal development. It would be an honor to be granted this incredible opportunity.
Thank you,
Tali Benaroch

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: If granted the opportunity to attend this university, I would also like to enroll myself in courses such as: ¿¿History of Anti-Semitism¿ and ¿¿Contemporary Jewish Issues ¿. After reading the course descriptions, it is clear that these courses relate to what I learn about now. I would also be interested in taking some courses in the field of Jewish studies so that I can further connect with my Jewish roots. One of the courses I would be interested in taking is ¿¿The War against the Jews: History of the Holocaust ,¿ this course teaches the history of the holocaust which is something I have always been interested in.
At this time, the Undergraduate Chair of Gender Studies, Dr. Melissa Houghtaling isn't sure if any of these courses will transfer toward my Gender Studies Degree because I have not been able to obtain previous course syllabi for the courses I am interested in yet. When I obtain the previous course syllabi of these courses, Dr. Houghtaling will assess wether or not they can transfer toward my degree. Hopefully a few of the courses will be able to transfer toward my degree, although ff she decides they cannot, the courses I take at Tel Aviv University will count toward my electives. This will leave me one course behind my Gender Studies degree. I would be willing to take that course over the summer in order to remain on track.
