Petition Letter: To The Associate Dean,

I am appealing to drop Genders 212, Fall 2015.

I am appealing to drop Genders 212 because of extenuating circumstances. On October 18th 2015, I was diagnosed with a concussion (see attachment). The doctor recommended that I stop attending classes and hold off from completing assignments for two weeks. However, as you can see from my transcript, I am a keen and Dean's list student and was eager not to fall behind so I did not ask for any extensions. I continued to work and try my hardest to complete all assignments necessary and promptly. However, it is obvious now that the concussion effected my ability to focus and limited me from completing my best work. In addition, I was fully aware of the November 6th drop course deadline but, I had not received more than 10 percent of my mark until Tuesday, November 10, 2015 where I received another 30 percent- noticeably the greater amount. This again was out of my control and if I had received the mark earlier I would have promptly dropped the course on time. In addition, this course is an elective and will not effect my ability to complete my major requirements or from completing all courses required to graduate on time in June, 2017. Furthermore, for health reasons beyond my control, and for the delayed time to receiving the bulk of my grade, I am asking you to please lower my stress levels by allowing me to withdraw from this class.

My future plan will be to take the extension prescribed to me from my doctor and to ask for feedback earlier from professors to understand where I stand grade wise. In addition, I met with an academic advisor and although dropping this course will not put me behind in my studies, I am willing to take an online class during Spring semester 2017 if needed.
