Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter to ask for special permission to drop the course PSYC 271, Brain and Behavior 1, held within the fall semester of the 2012 academic year, even though the November 6, 2015 deadline had passed.
Due to very special circumstances, I have been unable to drop this class on time. First of all, I have been struggling with the content of the course since the beginning of the term. It requires a stronger science background than I was expecting. However, I did not want to let this keep me back from completing the course. Even though I have failed the first midterm and I have continued to struggle with the class, I still wanted to work harder and try my best for the class. However, I was also trying to deal with some family issues I have been experiencing. Since the beginning of August, my parents have been dealing with some issues between them. Unfortunately, recently, it has come to a point where there is a possibility for them separate. It has not been an easy process since the beginning of the school year. This situation has putted more pressure on me when the course was already challenging for me. I have been in communication with my brother and my other family members for support on this sensitive topic. Even though I am aware the fact that I should have dropped the course earlier than the deadline, I am still trying to make the right decision for me and for my future and applying now.
It is because of circumstances that were out of my control, I decided to drop the course now. I am a second year student in Sociology major and Psychology minor. However, I am planning to continue my undergraduate education in psychology major. After completing my undergraduate studies, I am planning to further my education by applying to Master's Degree in clinical psychology and getting an incomplete or failure on my transcript might affect my chances to switch my major and my plans for post-graduate education. I have been working very hard since the first day of my classes and I am planning to take a summer course to replace the one I am hoping you will let me drop.
I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Thank you for taking time to review my request.
Sincerely,
Rana Soyak
