Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Johanne Bénard
I'm appealing to drop statistics 268 (fall term 2015) after the deadline. I am a second year mathematics student. The reason I am requesting this is because I have experienced very high levels of anxiety/stress and medium levels of insomnia throughout the fall semester. Since my stat 268 class is in the morning, I experienced great trouble keeping up with this course, rarely following the material. I have an appointment with a crisis counselor on December 7th within the health and disability services, and with a physician on December 15th. I did attend almost every class, but the pace of the class was too much for me to follow because of my lack of sleep, especially not having been introduced to statistics. This made keeping up a challenge. I decided to not drop the course before the deadline date because the midterm for the class was (November 25), which gave me motivation to think I could still catch up in the class (I have never dropped a class before). However I was still much unprepared because of my other class workloads and I heavily regret not dropping the course. I love math, I love the faculty of math and I hope I can continue my career as a math major (or maybe other sciences). I currently have a 3.00 gpa however I have never failed a class in my life, and if my request is filled I can put the rest of my effort into my other 4 classes (diff 231, calc 280, cisc 101, p52). I do plan on taking statistics again (stat 263 most likely) in 3rd or 4th year, as it was also my first statistics course. I would do anything for a second chance in a similar course in the future. Most importantly I will strive towards securing and raising my gpa for this semester, and having a reputable transcript for my future endeavors.
