Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean, Dr.Johanne Bernard,

I am appealing to drop ECON 390 (Fall, 2015).

I am appealing to drop this due to the fact that I did not receive my midterm mark until after the drop date. I assumed I was at least passing the course until I emailed the Professor last week for our grades. Almost nothing in this course is done online, so there was no way I could have kept up to date with my progress. There is only a midterm and a final in the course, also making it much harder for me to know how I am doing in the course. I am very concerned I will fail this course which affects so many others factors in my life. This is already a very stressful time of year, and having the course adds a lot to it. I understand that I should have been more aware of when the drop date was but I am asking to appeal it now due to these circumstances.

In the future, I will make sure that something like this does not happen again. I will be more aware of my progress by checking in with the professor on a more regular basis to make sure I understand all of the material. I already hold a smaller course load due to the fact I am very busy with athletics at Queen's. Being in only third year, I still have two more years to support my academic goals for the future. I plan on taking a course this summer to assist those future goals, and help improve my GPA. I have been consulting with the athletic services academic advisor about all of this and she has been helping me achieve those goals for the future.
