New Information: Dear Associate Dean,
Thank you for agreeing to consider my appeal after the 21-day deadline. I am appealing to drop HIST 400 and HIST 257 from the Winter 2015 semester. I gave a detailed account of my mental health background in my original appeal letter, so I will try not to be repetitive.
After noticing the crash in my mood in fourth year, I dropped all of my classes except for the two I am appealing, thinking I could handle the small load and that I was being proactive by doing so instead of repeating past semesters. This was a mistake as I ended up reaching an all time low in that time frame, and had to leave school to return home for medical care. I spent weeks going to Western General twice daily for a treatment my psychiatrist was hopeful would work. Unfortunately it did not, and it was not until May that I started taking my current medication that all of the changes started happening. Before treatment I was unable to focus or find the drive to perform even rudimentary tasks, making schoolwork and most other things near impossible. This, in addition to having to return to Toronto because of the incident in February, meant I would fail my courses.
This is the first time that I have taken time off to make sure a treatment has lasting benefits, and after months I am positive in saying I now have my mind back and am capable of completing my degree. All of the events of the past four years have affected my GPA and academic history very negatively, and I am hoping to correct it as much as possible so that I might have the opportunity to attend the grad school I would like to. Removing these two courses would be a step in the right direction.
