Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Bénard,

I am appealing to drop ECON 250 (Fall 2015).

On November 18th due to scheduling confusion and stress I missed the midterm for the course ECON 250. The fall lectures for ECON 250 takes place: Mondays 4 pm-5:30 pm and Wednesday 2:30 pm-4 pm. The midterm had been scheduled for Monday Nov 16th but was then rescheduled soon before the midterm for the Wednesday (Nov 18th) of that week. Due to stress which led me to make the scheduling error I showed up to the midterm on Wednesday at 4 pm (the original time) rather than 2:30 pm and thus I showed up right at the end of my midterm with no time at all to even possibly try and attempt to do the best I could on the midterm. Midterms are a substantial part of a course mark. Other than the midterm that I missed, the lowest mark I've received in ECON 250 is an A-. A mark of a 0 on this midterm brings my course mark significantly down. Moreover the course mark that I would receive in this course absolutely does not adequately reflect my understanding of the course material and my previous graded academic performance in the course. The mark that I could receive in ECON 250 due to this scheduling confusion is not only poorly reflective of my graded academic performance specifically in ECON 250 but would also bring down my GPA. This midterm mark discourages all the academic effort and work I have done this semester in order to achieve my academic goals and negatively affects my mental academic planning and academic performance. While the final date to drop a course was Nov 6th I am appealing to have this course dropped because the situation around this midterm is an unusual academic event that occurred after the drop date and is an unforeseen circumstance that is causing me undue stress and anxiety but is a situation that did not exist before the drop date.

Please let me know if any other information is required, and thank you for your consideration.
