Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Sydney Wong (student : 10103195) and I am appealing to have a course ( SPAN P10) dropped after the deadline.
The reason for this is due to the fact that over the past semester I have had many mental health issues and challenges that have made it very difficult for everyday activities along with my studies. I did not drop the course sooner due to the fact that I thought I would be able to complete all the course work. Unfortunately this was not the case. Once I realized I would not be able to successfully finish my work, I emailed my Professor to ask for assistance. My Professor advised me that since I had missed so much class that it would be best for me to drop the class, essentially giving me her support to withdrawing from the class even though the deadline had passed.
These mental health issues have been something I have been dealing with for an extended amount of time. Although they affect all my class it affect SPAN P10 the most because they made it very difficult for me to attend class which class participation was a huge part of the SPAN P10 mark (about 20).
Although these issues are quite debilitating, I have been taking steps to improve. I have continued to see my Psychiatrist (I have a letter from him attached) along with seeing a counselor at La Salle. The counselor named Cathy also advised me that my best bet would be to appeal to have the course dropped.
In conclusion, my mental health issues adversely affected my studies within SPAN P10 due to missing a lot of class and therefore losing participation marks. I am continuing to see health care professional and plan to meet again with my counselor in January after the break to prevent this situation from occurring again. With the support of my Professor and counselor, I am hopeful that I can have this course dropped and continue to improve my mental health standing as well as my studies.
Thank you for taking the time to read my appeal,
Sydney Wong
