Petition Letter
Petition Letter: This past fall I was hospitalized for a period of about three weeks following a psychotic episode. Surrounding this period I was absent from school for a total of 5 weeks, eventually culminating in my return to Queen's, dropping all of my courses but one. I have been advised by medics to lower my expectations academically, as my brain will take time to return to it's proper functioning standard, while the medications have me feeling extremely sleepy most of the time.
This semester I bit off a bit more than I can chew, having enrolled in a particularly challenging class (Math 281). I was pretty determined to stick with it, but upon attempting recent assignments this weekend as well as discussing with my mother, we both think it best that I choose an easier course this term. I have always had an easy time with Math, but since my episode, I have found it incredibly challenging, and failing at it is lowering my confidence and overall academic motivation- which is crucial for me at this point.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: In my circumstances it is essential for me to minimize stress, as well as build back academic confidence.
I have extended my stay to a 5 year plan, and am thus enrolled in only three courses this semester. By replacing the more difficult math course with one that has a lighter course load, I can take gradual steps towards recovery. I plan on taking a simpler math course this summer, in order to slowly re-build my abilities in this subject in order to prepare for the following year, in which I will have to take more upper year maths in order to fulfill my program requirements.
