Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies)
I am a second year student who is appealing to have my Film240 fail removed from my transcript due to the extenuating circumstance of mental illness.
In september I was having mental health problems which greatly effected my academic performance for the entire semester. This caused me to not preform at my best, and fall behind in my assignments and class attendance. I
Spring Forsberg from Academic Advising set me up with an appointment with Dustin Washburn from Student Wellness Services. After seeing a counsellor at Student Wellnesses and being connected to other resources, I was able to buckle down and focus more on my courses. I am on a much better track now, and am steadily getting better. My friends and family have been helping me, and counselling has shown me the importance of communicating instead of hiding.
However, because of the technical difficulties that the Film 240 exam had, the online exam was cancelled and I was not given the opportunity to improve my grade. This resulted in me failing the course. I would like to appeal this, and have the fail removed from my transcript.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My academic plan is focused on returning to the work habits and mental health quality that I possessed in high school. I am spending a minimum of 1 hour a day in the library, or studying in coffee shops where I can focus and feel comfortable. I have a mental health hotline to call on days when I feel my academics are taking a back seat. Along with this, I understand that counsellors like Dustin, as well as my close friends and mom are always available to talk, judgement free. I've found that exercise has a great impact on my mental health, so it has become a goal to go to the gym at least once a day. My goal is to get above a 70 in each one of my classes.
