Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing to drop ARTH 292 (Fall 2015) and ARTH 226 (Fall 2015).

Due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control my academic performance was directly affected. These extenuating circumstances began mid September when I found a lump in my left breast. This medical issue continued into October causing me to miss many classes due to doctor's appointments and medical tests. (See attached letter)
Later in November a second medical condition put a further hold on my academic focus. A neurological condition that causes me to have night seizures worsened due to triggers such as stress and sleep deprivation, which was a result of trying catch up on classes I had missed because of my medical issues. These seizures cause injury, migraines, and exestuation causing me to miss classes and directly affecting my academic focus and performance. Unfortunately, this seizure condition further worsened when I had my fist daytime seizure. After this I started experiencing the warning signs and symptoms someone would experience prior to a seizure on a daily basis. This caused me to miss and leave the few classes I was able to attend. (Medical records to follow)
As my health continued to deteriorate through to December and into exam so did my academics. Fortunately, I was able to pass my other courses because I had access to information I had missed in class on Moodle. As for ARTH 292 and ARTH 226, although slides were posted I could not complete course work or do well on tests due to the immense amount of in-class information I had missed.

Thank you for your consideration,
Paris Finn

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Dear Associate Dean,

This semester on the other hand is looking much brighter for me. My seizures are now under control. Thus allowing me to focus on my academics and attend class with out having to leave due to seizure symptoms. This also means I will not miss classes and assignments due to post-seizure injuries and impairments.
Regarding the tumour in my breast, I am still dealing with this situation. Because of this I am taking a lighter course load this semester. This lighter course load will allow me to focus on my academics without spreading myself too thin. This lighter course load will also give me to opportunity to succeed academically, as well as give me the time to mend physically.

Thank you for your consideration,
Paris Finn
