Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am a fourth year student at Queen¿¿s. Half way through last year (my third) I decided/realized that the path I wanted to take was to be a nurse. To that end, I decided to pursue a biology program to gain me access to another university¿¿s accelerated after-degree program in nursing. I went to speak to an academic advisor. I am still not sure how the information was misinterpreted by me, but I was given the impression that I could use substitutions with my psychology courses in order to graduate on time. When I went to guarantee this before applying for graduation during the exam period in the fall, I found out this was not the case. Needless to say this caused some panic. I spent my Christmas looking at my options for graduating, or at very least finishing my courses by the spring. I realized my only real option was to return to my politics degree. Unfortunately, due to outstanding debt I could not change my course schedule.
I am a financially independent student. My parents do not have the capacity to help me with money in any way. This means that the past four years have been an excellent education in financial management. I came back for third year with the stark realization that I needed to start working during the school year as well as the summer in order to be able to afford books, rent, general bills, tuition, school supplies, and flights (back and forth from Alberta). I found a job, and worked there from September 2014 to December 2015. In November 2015 I was told the business would be closing, and immediately started for new work in order for me to promptly start in January. I received no offers, despite having a plethora of hospitality experience. This led me to have to retain some of my student loans in order to ensure I could pay my rent and grocery bills. The after-effect of this is me owing a debt to the University. Which has obviously prevented me from enrolling in new classes.
I quite simply and unfortunately cannot afford to come back to Queen¿¿s for another year. Receiving a degree from this university has been my dream since I was 16 years old, and it would be a huge shame for me to have to transfer all credits in order to receive a degree at all.
The only thing I need to graduate with a BA in politics is two 200 level courses more. I wish to drop Bio 103, 111, and Geo 110 in favour of adding Pols 212 and 242.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I have already discussed with instructors for both requested courses the steps necessary for success. It is early in the semester and I am geared and motivated to catch up quickly. I have reviewed the 212 syllabus, and had a meeting with Dr. Merolli who confirmed that she thinks I would be successful in this course. I took a similar course (Pols 211) in my second year and did quite well in it. She has added me to a tutorial she thinks would be best suited for me to be added to a group. I have also spoken to Dr. Rapley, and have requested he send me the syllabus. Both professors have signed off on me adding these courses late. I am ready to catch up, which will be facilitated by the fact that I am only taking 4 courses this semester.
