Pertaining to a previous issue, I would like to appeal to drop CHEM 211 and for a credit rating in GEOL 107 and STATS 263.
I have been dealing with some unfortunate post-concussion symptoms from multiple concussions. In the last two years, I have sustained two concussions that have left me with light sensitivity, memory problems and concentration issues. They have presented me with difficulties concerning both my personal and academic life where I have had to adjust as best I could to continue on with my goals. Presently, I am seeking medical attention from an occupational therapist, a physical rehab therapist and a sports medicine doctor who all deal specially with concussions. I've had to try my best at finding new methods of studying to compensate for my condition and their limitations which has proven difficult.
In the past I have applied for an incomplete in both CHEM 211 and GEOL 107, so I could recuperate and write them when I was better. I took a reduced semester in winter 2014 and took no classes for summer 2015 hoping I would be able to make a sufficient recovery for fall 2015. During the summer I had changed my major and hoped to catch up in the fall, I took four required geology courses plus my two deferred exams. Unfortunately, I was too eager to get back to class that I over estimated my minuscule improvement to be able to take on more than I could handle. I take more time daily to complete a task compared to my peers and my mental functioning is a bit slower. Unfortunately, this abundant change in my mental capacity has caused me to develop an anxiety towards testing situations because I know it's where I lack, no matter how many hours I put in.
I wrote GEOL 107 as one of my five exams during this fall's examination period. With my current circumstances and large course load I did't do as well as I expected on the exam so with the professor's advice and suggestion at the difference in my grade, it was suggested I request a CR.
With the change in my major, CHEM 211 was no longer a required course. Due to my overabundance of stress and workload with the approval of Prof. Jessop, I decided to not write the deferred exam and concentrate on the other five exams at hand. Given the circumstances for deferring previously and my current predicament, I would like to late drop CHEM 211.
STATS 263 is a math based course which contains a lot of memory and interpretation work which is something right now I am greatly struggling with. My problem with math is it relies on the significance of minor details which are important to carry out certain sequences of the operation pertaining to each situation that is a bit different in every question that I can't always remember and the multiple different scenarios that slightly alter how you deal with the problem. Therefore, you either remember the sequence of steps to get the correct answer or you forget a single step and can no longer go forward which proved difficult for me when I knew what operation to use and why but I struggle with the small details. I am requesting a CR because of my current state of memory.
My circumstances do prove to be difficult at the most of times and they are not convenient that is true. At this time, all I can do is adapt and hope with the medical assistance that I am seeking and effort on my part it will all improve and possibly return to my former self. However, with head injuries I will never be certain on the pace or amount of recovery that it will restore to my memory in order to continue striving towards my goals.
