Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing for aegrotat standing for CLST 200 which I took in the fall semester of 2015 because of extenuating circumstances that hindered my ability to perform well academically.
In June of 2015 I went through a personal trauma that greatly affected my mental health. When school started I found it very difficult to focus on anything academically whether that was tests, essays or even lectures. Because of what happened over the summer I was unable to sleep at night which caused me to miss many classes. I feel behind very quickly but I kept reassuring myself that I could get a handle on both my mental health and my academics. Eventually at the request of a close friend I did seek help form a counselor. Unfortunately this was not a positive experience for me if fact it ended up bring up the issues that I wasn¿¿t quite ready to talk about. I had a series of panic attacks shortly after this which again hindered my ability to go to class. In November I felt that I did need to seek help from a counsellor again which I did. This time it did help and I was given several very good suggestions for how to deal with what happened. I am doing much better now mentally and academically but as far as last semester goes I feel that the reason for my grades being so low was out of my control.
